*What is trauma-informed bodywork?
Each client arrives at their massage appointment with a unique personal history informing their experiences of touch and their perceptions of care during their session. While receiving massage and bodywork, it is normal and common for emotions and memories to come to the surface because the body and mind are inextricably linked and affect each other. A trauma-informed bodyworker knows that consent is the cornerstone for all healthy touch and makes sure that the client is an informed partner in the treatment. She communicates professionally and directly with the client and remains receptive to guidance. She stays within her professional scope of practice and refers to other healthcare practitioners when appropriate. While being sensitive to the client’s non-verbal signs of comfort or distress during the session, she facilitates nervous system regulation and prioritizes feelings of trust and safety by maintaining an atmosphere that is non-judgmental and compassionate. The therapists at Canyonland Healing Arts are proud of their commitment to bringing trauma-informed massage to Southern Utah
