Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD)

Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) focuses on increasing the function of the lymphatic system. MLD reduces swelling by redirecting lymphatic fluid around damaged or blocked areas. It is ideal for post-surgical patients who want to receive top notch care that supports the natural healing process. MLD is frequently recommended by plastic surgeons during the recovery phase following liposuction. This specialized form of therapy is generally believed to decrease recovery time and improve results, by reducing post-surgical swelling and fibrosis (scar tissue formation) and by stimulating the immune system. MLD is recommended after most orthopedic, cosmetic, and gender affirming surgeries.

MLD is proven to be helpful for:

  • Post-traumatic edema (sprains, whiplash, hematoma)
  • Post-surgical edema
  • Lymphedema
  • Lyme disease
  • Auto-immune disorders (fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma)
  • Tinnitus
  • Fibrocystic breast disease
  • Pregnancy edema
  • Inflammation

Because the lymphatic system is very delicate and requires specific knowledge of anatomy and the correct application of MLD principles, it is important to seek out a certified manual lymph drainage therapist or certified lymphedema therapist for MLD treatment. Callie is trained in the Vodder method through Klose training, which is the gold standard in MLD education. Please schedule a free phone consultation prior to your first appointment to discuss whether manual lymph drainage is an appropriate therapy for you.
